Healing Options for Insomnia

“I’ve always envied people who sleep easily. Their brains must be cleaner, the floorboards of the skull well swept, all the little monsters closed up in a steamer trunk at the foot of the bed.”  ― David Benioff

Insomnia is a condition marked by an inability to fall asleep or stay asleep long enough for sufficient rest.

With many different causes ranging from stress, diet, to medication use, insomnia is an extremely difficult condition to cope with. The inability to maintain a healthy sleep cycle results in depression, a weakened immune system, loss of concentration and more. With 60 million Americans battling this condition on a yearly basis, insomnia is a very common occurrence that can result in serious consequences if left untreated.

How to Fall-Proof a Home in Five Easy Steps

The following is a guest post by Max Gottlieb from Senior Planning.

If you’ve ever had a relative who has fallen, then you know just how important it is to avoid falls at any cost.

A fall oftentimes means the beginning of someone’s journey into death. Both of my grandparents, who were otherwise healthy, fell and within three months passed away. My grandfather, recovering from a hospital stay, rolled off of his bed and all the progress of his recovery quickly vanished. Unfortunately, with a fall like this, there is not much you can do to prevent it unless the older person wants to put rails on their bed, similar to a top bunk on a bunk bed. For most people, this is unrealistic. My grandma’s fall, however, could have been prevented.

All About Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a chronic disorder in which an individual has irregular breathing during sleep.

This breathing irregularity occurs at intraverbals, typically lasting seconds to minutes. Although this habit seems negligible, it prevents an effective, healthy sleep pattern from occurring. This results in extreme daytime fatigue, moodiness, and sometimes, even depression.

Since this condition, that nearly 18 million Americans are projective to have, occurs during sleep, it is extremely tricky to diagnose. Individuals can go a very long time without even realizing they have sleep apnea, and struggle to find the cause of their endless exhaustion. Even doctors have a hard time diagnosing sleep apnea, as there are no physical indicators that one has the condition.
